| Structural and Wildland Fire Fighter Training Opportunities |
The Selland College of Applied Technology at Boise State University offers firefighters the opportunity to pursue an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) and Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Fire Service Technology (FST) and Wildland Fire Management (WFM).
These degree programs are designed to appeal to those individuals seeking to formalize their fire training and experience with a 2-year or 4-year degree program in fire management.
Full-time, seasonal, and volunteer firefighters desiring these degrees will be able to use their National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) courses to satisfy the AAS degree requirements.
We offer training programs and continuing education for more than 1,000 career and volunteer firefighters each year who represent the region's municipal and county fire departments and districts and the state and national wildland fire fighting agencies.
Structural Firefighter Training
We partner with municipal and county fire departments and districts to meet the need of a department to maintain and sustain necessary skills for fire suppression and emergency response. Courses represent the approved National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) curriculum including firefighter safety and the effective use of specialized equipment and firefighting techniques.
Wildland Fire Training
The Wildland Fire Academy is offered each spring. The academy is offered to federal and state wildland fire fighting agencies and private contractors. Classes offered to first-year firefighters include how to be effective and how to survive in the hazardous wildland fire environment. Classes for veteran firefighters and managers include management techniques and protocol for ground support, air support, incident response and command, and forensics.
