We offer you some of the best apprenticeship programs in Idaho.

A Promising Future
Nationwide, the construction & trades industry is experiencing a tremendous shortage of qualified craft workers. This demand is expected to increase as the workforce continues to age and many highly skilled workers retire in the next 5 to 7 years. In most cases, there are more jobs available than graduates to fill them.

How Apprenticeships Work
Prospective Apprenticeship students must secure a position with a local plumbing, electrical or other company specializing in the particular field they want to learn. As an apprentice, you are an employee, and are usually paid an hourly wage. Wages increase according to experience in the trade and the current journeyman's rate of pay. Depending on the trade, wages range from 30 percent to 65 percent of a journeyman's wages. Many employers will pay for your training. Classes are held in the evenings and on Saturdays so you can work during the day and during the work week.

Women As Skilled Trades Workers
The most significant change in the demographic of this workforce is the number of women successfully embarking on these careers. Note: If you are a woman considering this field as an option, be sure to contact the Larry Selland College Center for New Directions at 426-4026.
