The Boise State University HVAC Apprenticeship Program is a non-credit, four-year program. It is intended for apprentices registered with the Idaho State HVAC Bureau (334-6180). State Registered apprentices are required to document work under the supervision of a journeyman for 8,000 hours and successfully pass the four-year program to be eligible to take the State of Idaho Journeyman Licensing Exam. The cost to register with the State is approximately $10 per year.

It is also recommended that apprentices be registered with the Bureau of Apprenticeship & Training (321-2972). There is no charge for their registration.

Students may attend class without registering with either of the above entities and without being employed as an HVAC apprentice, but you will not be eligible to obtain an HVAC Journeyman license. It is strongly recommended that you register with the State even if you are not working as an apprentice.

AGE:
In order to attend any Center for Workforce Training class, students must be at least 16 years old and out of high school. Exceptions for students still in High School can be made if written permission is given from their high school principal. In order to be an apprentice and register with the Idaho State HVAC Bureau, Federal law requires minimum eligible starting age to be not less than 16 years. Some construction sites require workers to be older.
