Nursing Assistant
Nursing assistants are in great demand throughout the country. Additionally, this is a wonderful beginning to an exciting career in the health care industry. This program includes 80 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of clinical experience (to be scheduled outside classroom hours, on your own time, at approved facilities). This class prepares you to
take the Nurse Aide Certification exam which is not included in the cost
of the course.
Phlebotomy Program
If you like people, have good communication skills, want to work in a hospital or clinic lab, and want a higher paying health care position, this program may be for you!
In the classroom you will learn the basics of anatomy and physiology of the vascular system, how to draw blood specimens using venipuncture and capillary puncture, and the proper preparation and handling of specimens for clinical laboratory testing. Additionally, dealing with patients/clients, medical ethics, and legal issues will be instructed.
As part of the
course you will be assigned to a clinical facility on your own time. This “real world” experience allows you to work with patients/clients using techniques learned in the classroom. Classes are held in the evenings. You must attend 90 percent of the classes to receive a certificate of achievement. Clinical site hours will be determined by the instructor, student, and hospital lab directors. Each participant must be able to be at the lab during some daytime hours.
Upon successful completion of classroom training and clinical hours, you will receive a certificate verifying your achievement. You can seek employment as an entry-level phlebotomy technician.
Assistance with Medications for the Unlicensed Assistive Personnel
If you have a facility and need five or more employees instructed call (208) 426-1974 for special group rates, dates and times.
This course is required for any Unlicensed Assistive Personnel who are delegated the task of assisting with medications by a licensed nurse. Great information for individuals who care for clients in the home or group facility. Approved by the Idaho State Board of Nursing.
IV Therapy for Nurses and Medical Assistants
More and more nurses are using IV’s outside the skilled settings, and with a thorough understanding will greatly increase your employability. In this course you will learn general IV therapy skills and patient preparation for IV transfusions. You will also learn to select the infusion site, perform veinipunctures, initiate the IV infusions and provide ongoing assessments of your patients.
*Note - Must be an RN, LPN, or Medical Assistant.
Instructor Development
This course is designed to provide basic information on instructing the adult learner. It is offered as a self study course with six modules. Each module has an activity that the student completes and mails to the Instructor. This course is required (or an equivalent course) to instruct CNA's or the Assistance with Medication courses through the Post Secondary Professional Technical Schools.

Medical Terminology
Are you interested in beginning a career in the health care field and want to be able to speak the language when you begin? Increase your medical office opportunities to include medical receptionist, clerk, transcriptionist, or secretary. All of these high-demand positions offer exciting opportunities – and all require a working knowledge of medical terminology. This course will teach you commonly used medical terms, prefixes, and suffixes, and will allow you to practice their pronunciation, spelling, and abbreviations. You will also gain an introduction to the structure and function of body systems, diseases, diagnostic tests, surgeries, and medications. Homework is required. This is a graded course.
Visions Self-Study
This self-study course provides the skills that make you more effective in assisting patients with developmental disabilities. You study positive programming techniques and behavioral strategies, and learn how to develop an efficient plan of action. This course meets Medicaid requirements and is designed for personal-care attendants, ICF-MR employees, shelter home employees, job coaches, parents, special education teachers, classroom assistants, and anyone interested in working in the field of developmental disabilities. You must attend two pre-arranged meetings in Boise with your instructor. Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is suggested.
On-going. Start anytime- (You have 8 weeks to finish the course from your initial meeting with the instructor).
DENTAL ASSISTANT PROGRAMS
Fundamentals of Dental Assisting
It is time to enhance or begin your career as a dental assistant. This course will equip you with the basic information and skill necessary to become eligible for the Dental Assisting Mastery Series of Expanded Functions. Recognized by dentists as valid preparation for entry-level positions, this course is the first step toward furthering your career in dentistry. You will gain in-depth instruction inn all aspects of dental materials, cavity classification, infection control, charting, terminology, local anesthetics, and legal/ethical dental issues. Pre-requisite: Employment with a dental office.
Self-Study
Modules are taken by the student to work through at his or her own pace. This style is wonderful for the student who learns best in the quiet environment of their own home. Testing is performed with an instructor.
Dental Fundamentals Challenge Exam

Expanded Functions Dental Mastery Series
Take charge of your dental career and excel in your field by mastering more dentistry skills. All of the following courses are approved by the Idaho State Board of Dentistry and are designed to help you increase your job value through in-depth instruction and clinical experience on the six specified dental procedures. Take all or any of these courses and continue to strive toward mastery!
Mastery Series Requirements
A minimum of six months experience as a dental assistant is required. You must be currently employed by a dentist who will sign an agreement for you to take this course and meet one of the following criteria:

Currently certified by the Dental Assisting National Board.

OR Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program (Boise State University or other school).

OR Successful completion or challenge of Dental Assisting Fundamentals.

Medical Transcription
Take your knowledge of medical terminology to a new career level by adding transcription skills. Learn to transcribe from recorded media. You will use course materials approved by the American Association for Medial Transcription in creating a variety of medical reports and documentation. Emphasis is on vocabulary, speed, accuracy, and correct technique. Homework is required and may be done on campus during open lab hours or you will need to purchase or rent a transcriber (strongly recommended).
Prerequisite: Typing 45 wpm, Medical Terminology, and Microsoft Word.
Recommended: Excellent grammar and punctuation.
